Seven Questions with Vic Salinas

Vic Salinas

Vic Salinas (@vicsalinasiv on Twitter) is the owner of Equinox Watches and the founder of VSIV Insiders. Vic has found a fair amount of success very quickly in ecommerce. Today, Vic graciously shares his knowledge about the path he took to become successful in ecommerce and his thoughts on how the space has evolved.  Please be sure to read on:

1.) What first brought you to wanting to do your own business?

Vic: I think the biggest thing for me is that I have never enjoyed working for someone else. I always have wanted to be the person in charge, and fail or succeed I want to be responsible.

2.) How did you decide on what your first product would be?

Vic: I knew that watches sell well, and in doing some research for my first product I realized that I love designing watches.

3.) Who do you credit for getting you into the ecommerce game the most?

Vic: Without a doubt, I would say that Chris Johnson (@CJ_Johnson17th) and @Kobegatsby got me to take the first steps in ecom.

4.) What motivates you to keep going everyday with your business?

Vic: The thought of being in complete control of my life drives me every day. I also grew up in a poor community and watched my single mother struggle to raise my brother and me.

5.) What advice would you give to someone who is looking at starting their own online business?

Vic: Start now. Stop making excuses and just go for it, all the wondering won’t make any difference in your life.

6.) If you could go back in time and share advice with yourself when you were first starting out, what would it be?

Vic: I think I would say exactly this, “Keep your head up kid, sacrifice that time with your friends. Do things that you don’t like every day. And no matter what stick with it. As long as you accomplish one thing each day, you are on the right track.”

7.) Lastly, what excites you the most about the growing entrepreneur movement on Twitter and where do you see it going in the next 5 years?

Vic: What excites me the most is that I’m learning all of this now, because in 3,4,5,10 years I’ll make my money by servicing all of these new stores and helping the young bucks – I’m a young buck myself right now – I’m very excited for the near future of e-commerce. Truly I see everyone having a side hustle within the next 5 years.

Thank you for your insights and responses, Vic!
