The Materials Behind Heritage Racer
Unyielding Durability
We chose to use DLC coating instead of PVD for Heritage Racer because DLC excels over PVD in durability, scratch-resistance, wear resistance.
A Watch With A Story
One of the fun things when designing a new watch is pulling from brand history of the past to bring it to the present.
Easter Egg #1: Compass Red
Back in 2019, our dream was to someday offer a mechanical tachymeter watch. We wanted something as nice as a Tag Carrera that looked like it was as special.
That dream was where Compass came from.
During the design process, it took three weeks to settle on the right red color for the Compass's second hand. There were a lot of mock ups trying out different shades of red whether they were too bright, too pink, too dark, not red enough, etc.
It's funny to look back on but in 2019 we were in the beginning of learning these simpler things.
On Heritage Racer, the red on the second hand is a call-back to the red we decided on for Compass.
This dates back to our beginning in 2018, when the second watch ever released, the Voyager, had a nice gun metal case. It carried over to the second generation of Legacy (on sale now) and is now found on Heritage Racer.
Since 2018, we've learned to use DLC for the coating instead of PVD to create a high scratch resistance case.
Easter Egg #3: 12 O'Clock Marker
This one is more recent with it first debuting on our Voyager GMT model. The idea came from seeing other brands have the number markers at 12/9/6 and us wanting to do something a little different.
Why not keep the mid-point of the 24 hour scale?
Back in 2019 with Compass, our very first NATO band was a double sided black NATO with a strong Red center stripe. When those sold out, they were replaced with the Secret Agent straps of today.
Heritage Racer uses a similar design as that original strap for its included NATO band.
Easter Egg #5: Custom Watch Box
The watch box that Heritage Racer comes in is just the second fully-custom made box for La Touraine.
The first?
Voyager 1893 Collection from 2020.
Why La Touraine?
At La Touraine, our watches embody our passion for quality and commitment to lasting value. Each timepiece is crafted to impress for years.
As a lifelong customer, you're part of our family, not just a number. Thank you for trusting us.
